Eyebrows

Eyebrows, the most expressive feature of one's face.  Why do we have such a time with defining what to do with them?  Do we pluck or not?  Do we have them artfully shaped to reflect a truly feminine appearance, or do we go middle-of-the-road and hope for the best?  Whatever you do is up to you, but don't rely on others to see the feminine qualities that only you can see in your brows.

I have heard from many individuals that they wished they could have brows like mine, but couldn't be seen in public in drab with brows like that.  Our activity is a true love of the feminine and if we are so embarrassed to show that love of the femininity, we possibly shouldn't be doing it.  Why not make the best of what you can do and still look truly feminine at times?

Update: Not only do I not have cute brows in drab, I have no brows!

I waxed every hair off and no one has even noticed.  None of the people in my office or clients or anyone has said a thing or looked at me funny. Think about it.  What do I do? Read on....

This discussion is for those that are striving to look more feminine, by my definition, and want to do something with their brows.  A number of tricks are included, some plagiarized from various other authors, but nonetheless, grouped here for your information.

Eyebrows are two hairy features sitting right over the eyes.  If you look at a number of women you will find that everyone has a different brow shape.  Each has her own set of brows, styled or not, but generally feminine.  Why are they more feminine than men's? Because women take care of their appearance and take the time to remove extraneous hairs that mysteriously grow every day.  Many women pluck every single day.  Not necessarily many hairs, but a clean-up effort to render them more attractive in their eyes.  What we have to do is retrain ourselves to think about the maintenance of our brows and move toward the final appearance that we want.

Tami's method

How did I do it?  Well, it didn't happen overnight.  I wanted thin, highly arched brows, my interpretation of what is truly a feminine look.  No second-guessing, truly feminine.  On a typical male they would really look out of place.  So how to do it?  I started by defining what I wanted and how high they actually would  sit on my face.  I bought eyebrow templates from some mail-order catalog and situated them over my current brows until I found the look I wanted.  I realized the best bet was to simply remove every eyebrow hair and start all over, but that wasn't practical. (Oh yes it is!!)  (Who ever accused any of us of being practical?)

Using an eyebrow pencil I drew in the approximates shape and size of the brows I wanted.  I burned the location and size in my memory and plucked a few stray hairs out.  I washed all hints of eyebrow pencil off and over the next few weeks, slowly removed more and more hairs.  Mostly from underneath the brows, but some over the nose and down the bridge of the nose.  Look closely, they are there.  I used angle-tipped scissor-type tweezers and a 5 power standup mirror to see everything.  I wear contacts but was able to see the hairs without wearing my contacts.

My method would have taken ten years to have gotten to the point that I was satisfied with my brows, so I went to a local beauty salon.  I had a complete makeover, acrylic nails, ears pierced, and brows waxed.  Yup, waxed. I told the cosmetologist that I wanted brows just like hers, they were perfect!  She had very thin, highly arched brows that fit her face beautifully. So she waxed out everything that didn't fit in the pattern and drew in what was necessary. Following my makeover, I looked great!!! I had it all, perfect brows, great makeup highlighting my features, earrings, and nails.

My cosmetologist styled my wig and I walked out a perfect lady.  Before I left the girls in the shop invited me to go out with them that night.  I was on cloud nine!  I had a great time and was just one of the girls at their local lounge.  I was hooked!!!

Reality hit a couple of days later when I realized that everyone would see my missing eyebrows and start asking questions.  How would I handle it?  To make a long story short, I never had any questions!  I had been bleaching my brows for some time to lighten their appearance and after waxing no one could really see that there was a lost less hair than before.  It was totally anti-climatic!

Today, as noted above in my update, I no longer have any eyebrow hair. I then draw in any shape I want with eyebrow pencil and go on with the next step. (Yes, on occasion I do get a bit carried away, but isn't that part of the fun?) Besides, as one cosmetologist told me, the higher the arch, the more eye makeup you can wear!!  I can change the shape with just a few strokes of the pencil and completely change my brow identity.

My biggest problem is getting my brows to match! My dominant eye sees the other side of my face differently and I always end up with one arched and one rounded. I have used templates before and  found that I couldn't get a thin enough or a high arch or something just right even though they matched. I started drawing them freehand by placing location marks over each eye as a starting point, and at the peak of the brow to start the downward curve. Then I simply connect the dots.  When I make the initial dots, I use another pencil held horizontal to my forehead to make sure that the dots are lined up and one doesn't start lower than the other.

One other thing to keep in mind, most women do not match their brows.  One is always just a bit different than the other.  Look closely and you will see what I mean.  Using a template solves this problem and really gives a totally polished look.  You can find the brow templates all over, I found my first set in a mail order catalog and another set online at Eyebrowz.  The shape I started with  happened to be Hallie Barry's template, one of the 4 that I ordered in the kit from Eyebrowz. I also make my own templates and do them free-style. Update! I just found that my local Wal-Mart has templates in their cosmetic department.  I find that most women have different shaped eyebrows.  Those that don't are either quite artistic, use a template, or have had their brows tattooed on.  Permanent cosmetics can give you a gorgeous look all the time, but it cannot be hidden for those of you that only use makeup on occasion.

Eyebrowz displays many celebrities' brows  and you can pick the brow shape you want.  Your order includes some eyebrow powder and a brow brush to fill in the template. You may certainly use a brow pencil to fill in the shape.

Have a great time and enjoy the feminine!
